More xbox v1.4 news

* Consoles manufactured on or after 29 July 2003 are probably v1.4. You can easily see it's a v1.4 if the TV output chip (chip near the video output connector - I'm not talking about the nvidia gpu) is made by 'Focus'. All older versions of Xbox have a 'Conexant' video chip. (brand is written on the chip).

* madmaniac succesfully installed a 29-wire (generation1) modchip with a flashed MS orignal 5101 bios from a v1.3 xbox ... it did boot fine. (this means the 29-wire design works on v1.4 and it also means the RC4 from the v1.3 is the same on v1.4). Ubergeek failed to make the MS original 5101 bios from a v1.3 to work with a LPC modchip.

* There's still a theory the MCPX chip changed (fixed 'multi-version' bios bug, used something else then TEA algo, ...). Would be a strange move from MS to change/fix the MCPX , and not change the RC4 key in it though... but it's possible.

* Other theory: More hardware things changed to stop LPC modchips, like they did in v1.3 (remove LFRAME).

* Other theory is that only the 5101 bios has support for the new 'Focus' chip. All 'hacked' bioses are based on older bios/kernel versions.

Some theories are more probable then others ... I just list them so you know what's going on.
