Weekly data for the week ending July 28th/29th is now available for all regions. So, once again it's time to look at the weekly worldwide breakdown of hardware sales by region:

The DS sees a large increase in PAL regions with the release of Pokemon, increasing in sales by about 30%. Once again, the DS takes first place in every region, even beating out the PSP in Italy thanks to Pokemon power. Sales in Japan were also elevated despite being mostly overshadowed in the software release department by the Wii and PS3. Next week's sales will track the release of Picross DS, though don't expect it to be a big mover -- as a more casual puzzle title, it'll likely sell poorly initially but better over time, and will help move more systems at a steady rate rather than an initial spike.

Wii sales remained fairly steady, down about 5% in Japan and 7% in PAL from last week. Despite reports of increased supply in Japan, strong sales of Mario Party 8 did not move any additional systems. Mario Strikers Charged will get tracked next week and should be a major player in the charts, though Wii sales can only go up if Nintendo releases more supply for that week.

PSP remains in 3rd place worldwide this week, though it was a closer race with the PS3. With no key software releases recently in North America or PAL regions, PSP sales dipped slightly there, though the release of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories in Japan provided about a 6% boost there. A stronger than normal DS week means that the PSP sold less than a third of the DS this week. PSP sales remain highest relatively in Spain and Italy, and consistently outsells both the PS3 and 360 in almost every region.

The PS3 saw its strongest worldwide sales week since the week after the PAL launch, with strong sales in Japan due to the release of Hot Shots Golf 5, continued strong sales in North America following the price drop a few weeks ago, and slightly elevated sales in PAL regions with the introduction of the starter bundle pack. PS3 sales were still less than half of Wii sales worldwide this week, but they were nearly double 360 sales.

The 360 remains in last place worldwide this week, though sales overall were up 8% over last week. Even more depressing is the fact that the 360 took last place in every single region except for Australia, where it surprisingly placed second, even ahead of the Wii. The localized version of Oblivion sold relatively well for the 360 in Japan, and provided a solid 27% hardware increase there this week, though the actual numbers remain vanishingly small. A price cut for North America is finally coming in the next couple of weeks, though it may be too small to make a lasting impact. Madden sales in two weeks should push the 360 higher, however.

DS sales maintain their astonishing pattern of selling even better this year than shortly after the launch of the DSLite last year -- everywhere except in PAL regions, anyway. North America especially has seemed to catch on to the DS this year, with a nearly 60% increase over the same week last year.

Compared to last year at this time, PSP sales are once again up in North America, down in Japan, and flat in PAL regions, as they were last week. 360 sales are down 23% over this week last year, though that is less of a drop than was seen last week thanks to some small sales boosts this week. Once again, the 360 sold much worse in North America this year than last year (37% drop), though it has improved its position in Japan by 128% (2k units).

The Wii is closing in fast on the 360 in worldwide launch-to-date sales. As of this week, the 360 is still sitting just above 10 million units, at 10.251 million to be precise. Meanwhile, the Wii should be hitting 10 million LTD sales next week, as it currently sits at 9.837 million units right now. That puts the Wii just 414,000 behind the 360 overall. Considering that this week the Wii outsold the 360 worldwide by 172k units, we're looking at about 2.5 more weeks to go until the Wii catches the 360. The real time could be up to a week longer or shorter if, say, Nintendo releases a ton of Wii's in North America this week to go with Strikers, or Madden next week and the forthcoming price drop doubles 360 sales, but suffice to say by the end of August the Wii *will* be ahead of the 360.

Questions for next week: How well will Strikers push Wii hardware in North America? How well will the PS3 maintain its strong sales next week, especially in Japan? Will DS sales keep increasing even though they're already at monster levels? Could 360 sales possibly drop below 50,000 worldwide next week? Stay tuned..

Il supremo biby lo conosco da quando era "biby" senza supremo (magari ora è diventato nemecciano), quanto al resto anch'io amo i giochi mongoli (infatti locoroco è uno di quei giochi da cui non mi separo mai) però per gli occidentali è la definizione più adatta a questi titoli (Katamari Damacy come lo definireste).

come fa ad essere saturo il mercato con x360 se ha venduto "appena" 11 milioni di console? allora quante ps2 deve possedere ognuno se ne hanno vendute più di 150milioni?

solamente la gente che aveva intenzione di prendere 360 per il momento la ha presa quindi c'è una flessione nelle vendite

Partiamo dal fatto che la PS2 è un po'che si vende a 100 euro e spicci, la XBox360 ancora ha 399 come price tag (la Core è una presa per il culo, perchè una memory card almeno devi mettercela, e per quello che costa a quel punto meglio la Premium).
Inoltre la XBox360 è l'unica console che in USA si compra in doppia copia, una Premium per usarla ed una Core come rimpiazzo quando la Premium è in assistenza.
Apparte quello il mercato è stallato.
Molti dicono che il Wii è mosso principalmente da due fattori, uno è l'innovazione e l'altro è il ciclo d'aggiornamento dei fan Nintendo che erano con il GC.
Anche per la XBox360 è facile che parte del "mercato" sia stato rappresentato da ex utenti XBox, ora che quella fetta si è esaurita è difficile spingere.
La cosa brutta è che ci sono migliaia di console XBox360 v1, senza dissipatore e probabilmente "fragili" nei negozi e con la percezione che s'è creata del problema l'ignorante non le compra e quello esperto guarda le mfg date.
E questo strozza le vendite (tra l'altro, nel massimo del fantozzismo, hanno rilasciato la Elite poco prima di introdurre il dissipatore addizionale, col risultato che le Elite sono vulnerabili come tutte l'altre).

Forse non è noto ma in Giappone il tasto di conferma è la O mentre quello di cancel è la X.
La cosa, che avrete notato se avete un gioco import (o MGS2) è dovuta a come funzionano i segni in Giappone.
Universalmente il segno di successo in Giappone è il tondo, ed il segno di fallimeno, di ritardo, di stupidità e tutte le connotazioni negative possibili è la X.
X viene spesso associato ad una parola, "baka", stupido.
E Microsoft ha un marketing così lungimirante da lanciare in giappone il BakaBox.
