The Last Guardian creator 'terribly sorry' for delay

Fumito Ueda, best known for his work on Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, apologized for the ongoing and often mysterious development of The Last Guardian.

The game has been stuck in development for six years, although according to Ueda, his work on the game was completed "a long time ago." Ueda told Edge he was "terribly sorry for that for various reasons I have kept my audience waiting for such a long time."

"The details of when, where and how it will be completed are beyond my control," he continued. "The original staff members on Ico and SOTC are just as fussy over details as I am. I always want to create quickly, and I always want to increase the rate of production."

Ueda currently works on a freelance contract for the company, something he states "was not easy."

"I can't go into the details just yet. It will be good to be able to discuss it along with a post-mortem of The Last Guardian someday."

This is what the original Xbox design team thinks of the PS4

Design consultancy firm Teague — the company behind the original Xbox design — offered its critique of Microsoft's next-generation competition, the PlayStation 4, in a feature on Fast Company's Design page.

According to Teague, while the PS4 is more beautiful than its predecessors and the controller includes many improvements, it's "almost as if these two components were designed discretely, and they never combined to create a truly cohesive system." The company feels the PS4's looks recall the PlayStation 2 slim, the "greatest technical marvel of console hardware to this day."

One feature that clearly demonstrates Sony's commitment to pushing the PS4 as a gaming-focused console, according to Teague, is the redesigned light bar. The light bar gives better feedback to users through "more emotional color hues and behaviors," which the firm notes is a major improvement over more confusing LED indicators used on previous Sony consoles.

However, Teague writes that the placement of the power button where players' hands will be when ejecting and inserting discs was an odd choice, as is the decision to place the disc loader on the left side when traditionally Sony consoles have loaded on the right. The angular design is also a poor choice for "a box that will likely live side-by-side with the rectangular boxes."

Teague calls the DualShock 4 the "workhorse controller," a less toy-like piece of hardware with a more high-end feel. But while the firm is impressed with the controller's individual design and performance, they wrote that there is a "design disconnect" between the controller and console. While the console is very square with sever edges, the DualShock 4 is more rounded. This "break in the design language" is further widened by the PS4's all-black coloring and the controller's muddy gray look.

"If this is in fact the final act for home consoles boxes, Sony may have just missed the mark on creating a truly climactic finish," Teague wrote. "Our thought is that they should have put everything into the new controller. This should be the face of the PS4. The console needs to be supportive, not central to the gaming experience."

Xbox One Upload Studio gets SkyDrive support, lets players share game clips anywhere
Share your clips to YouTube, email or Facebook.By David Scammell (@VG_Dave) On 19th Nov, 2013 at 2:13pm

Microsoft has integrated SkyDrive support directly into Xbox One's Upload Studio to allow players to share their recorded gameplay clips through social media channels and email.

The platform holder announced details of the program this afternoon, confirming that players will be able to upload their Game DVR clips to their SkyDrive account, from which they can then share the file however they like.

The news means that players should be able to upload their gameplay clips directly to YouTube and other video streaming websites.

Game DVR lets players record and edit their last five minutes of gameplay into a single clip which they can share with others directly via Xbox LIVE or SkyDrive. The clips are saved as 720p MP4 files that can then be transferred to any compatible device without restrictions.

"Since we first announced Game DVR and Upload features for Xbox One, we’ve seen a lot of interest from gamers on how these features will help them capture their best gaming moments. When you bring your Xbox One home this week, you will find it easy to record your clips and personalize them for your Xbox Live friends to see. And we’re happy to reveal a new feature we’ve been hard at work on in Redmond.

"Thanks to SkyDrive on Xbox One, you can save your edited game clips directly to the cloud and share the way you want to share without any restrictions or limitations. Xbox One is the only console that allows you to take your clips to any social network, video upload site or professional editing tool."

Xbox One launches in the UK this Friday, November 22.

“Xbox, Record That” – Xbox One Allows you to Capture Gaming Moments Instantly

Thanks to the Kinect, one of the more exciting features the Xbox One has is the ability to record your gaming accomplishments instantly by simply saying “Xbox, record that”. Not only is it quick and easy to record your favourite moments in game, but you can easily share those with your friends via SkyDrive. The Xbox One allows you to save and edit your clips, then upload to SkyDrive all from the comfort of your console. Once your clips are uploaded to the cloud, you can share them with whoever you like without any restrictions or limitations. This isn’t limited to just pictures however, with you able to record video footage as well to share.

The Xbox One will certainly make sharing gameplay moments easier than it has ever been before. How many times have you seen some funny bug or glitch within a game, but had to take a picture with your phone to share it? Those days are long gone thanks to Xbox One!

To see how seamless this is and the kind of editing you can do to your clips, watch the video below!
