Ho fatto quanto hai detto modicando come da tuo suggerimento il kboot.conf praticamente l'ho incollato dal tuo qui ma niente quella dannata cornice rimane imperterrita.
Ho provato a vedere etc/X11/xorg.cong e ho visto che è uguale al tuo ho aggiunto che mancava su modes il 1280x720 e ho variato il horizsunc che era diverso.
Comunque lo incollo così gli dai un occhiata:
